Who needs webmail?
Sorry, I forgot. You're nailed to a chair.
Not at all. I can access my emails anywhere where there is an Internet
connection. Why would I need gmail? Especially as it seems to be taking
over, at least in usenet, that role previously filled by AOL.
How do you do that, without either : having your computer on you, or
setting up a new account every time, then erasing it, and making sure
you leave nothing on the temp machine? That's a complete PITA.
Webmail is a 2sec login away, anywhere. And you can check multiple
accounts with it, including POP and IMAP. Not to mention the usefulness
of a permanent online backup.
Where's the downside? There seems little justification for traditional
mail these days, when webmail can do it all. Plus, if you're of paranoid
disposition, you just install Roundcube or SquirrelMail on your own
server instead of using one of the big companies.
