lol nice grasping at straws...it is plainly obvious that the incident

I sympathise with the view that the incident has been somewhat
overblown, but this particular piece paints a somewhat peculiar view
of the situation, one (I might add) that I don't think paints Spain in a
good (or real) light!
1. He quotes Hamilton and finds time to report a quote about how
he loves Spain, but doesn't find time for the rest of the
quote where he explains he's saddened by the behaviour of the
crowd. Why not?
2. He does a traditional bit of misdirection when explaining
Aragones's outburst by focusing on the expletive and ignoring
the fact that Henry has been reduced to his skin colour. Yes,
his pigmentation is a fact, but we're all a lot more than our
visual attributes, surely?
3. When he finally gets down to business and looks at the genuine
issue (cultural - maybe not even racial - harmony), he offers
reasons for bad behaviour not a claim that it wasn't:
i) he says that the racial and religious (though not cultural, I
would say) homegeneity means they need time to adjust.
ii) He tries to suggest it's over-sensitivity by the
conservative British. Maybe that's part of it, but if you
upset groups, you have to respond.
iii) He offers the lack of organised far-right parties as proof
positive that Spain's not racist...but ignores the fact that
(i) (and internal bickering like ETA's campaign) has made it
moot until recently - maybe another 20 years will change
that (sadly).
iv) He seeks to offset Spain's behaviour by pointing at other
groups (as people in this newsgroup have). That's just
_wrong_. I don't think the Spanish (or English, Germans,
Dutch or Argentinians) are necessarily racist, but I do
think some of them are. If _any_ of them misbehave, the
fact that others do the same doesn't excuse it. Why try
to do so? Acknowledge it and move on, or it will recur.
All in all, I think this piece basically says "Pity poor Spain - they
haven't gotten used to outsiders yet, so we should understand why
they're racist". I actually think it's very condescending towards the
majority of Spanish who are both sophisticated and intelligent enough to
know bigotry when they see it.
Or did you read a different piece?

Ah, so Spain is the new Royston Yasey.
