A first place is, to me, worth *infintely* more than a second place, and
so on down to penultimate and last places. Show me a good loser and
you've shown me a loser.

The points system as it stands turns a championship into an
accountant's game (particularly the rubbish "nobody goes home
empty-handed" system now where 8/20 get points and a win is worth
20% more than losing); a pure place-counting system wouldn't often
change the result over a whole season, but where it does it generally
favours *racers* over those who play the percentage game.

Grand Prix racing is a gladiatorial sport. Not some non-competitive
piece of cooperative spackdom invented by the Inner London Education
Authority in the 1980s.
