Not many in the world speak Dutch, few if any, speak French (not due to
Belgium).

Lots of people speak Portuguese! Millions speak Spanish!

English? Proof that the British changed things!

It's the universal language of business, and the secondary language of many bi,
and even tri-lingual speakers on all sides of the globe!

I think a lot of that is due to American influence.

The current English speaking world, except for the UK and Australia, would
most likely be speaking French if the English had persevered over William
in 1066.



I have friends from The Philippines, and they speak their own languages
(majority speak Tagalog), English and occasionally French as well. But there
are few who don't speak English.

An old girlfriend lived and studied in China 20 years-ago, white folks who spoke
only German would visit and be accosted by Chinese people who demaded to speak
English!

When the Chinese found out that the white people they spoke to only knew German
and no English, they would ignore them!
