I know this is exactly the sort of answer you do not want to hear, but
do you think it would be feasible for you to change OS? to some free
UNIX (Linux, FreeBSD etc) or perhaps OSX?
seriously: having a Windows box as your main browsing machine is
asking for trouble.
Bjorn, I'm assuming you're new here :-)
I'm one of this groups resident Macheads. There are two of us. 99% of my
time is spent on Macs.
I have two OS X machines, plus two PCs, one running Ubuntu Edgy, the
other running XP. I also have XP on one of the Macs, running within a
virtual machine called Parallels Desktop. That's the one that got
infected.
I could just wipe the virtual machine and reinstall XP and the apps, but
it seems a bit radical. However, this trojan is a nasty, persistent
little bugger. The tools that claim they kill it, don't. It'd probably
be quicker to do a wipe and reinstall.
I'll try Paul's suggestion from Symantec, and if that doesn't work, it's
curtains for XP.
