Well, yes it was...the 8 minutes or so, we were kept updated by the PA
system (which, of course, one could hear, with cars coming past only 15
times). Also, when a car came by a long way ahead of (or behind) the main
pack, the wail of the engine could be heard for a couple of minutes, and
one could just imagine what went through the mind of the driver out in
the "Green Hell".
First time we went to the Ring, in 1958, my Dad drove the lot of us down
to the Eifel mountains from Oslo. In an 1938 Studebaker, well able to
cruise at 38mph! About 1300km that would have been, each way. Brave
feller!

Sometimes the word "brave" is used as a replacement for a less
complimentary word ;)
Hehe, well after all he *is* my father....and was quite experienced in
travelling the length of the Continong..after all, he went to Le Mans in
1952 in a Model T Ford, and repeated it in a Fiat 1100 in 1955.
