heck, most televisions came with complete schematics in the
manual so you could fix it yourself if you were handy around
electronics or knew someone who was.
A friend of mine still uses his top of the range telly. Top of the
range for 1972, that is, black and white, three buttons, on-off
switch, no remote.

Most of the world.
There were no regular colour transmissions in the UK 'til '67
