LOL. Hey, that is similar to what i tend to say about speed limits. If
i keep doing twice the speed limit, i can not possibly be even near
the accident that our TAC ads say i will have, if i am doing only 5Ks
over. ;-)

Standard argument:

Drive a little bit faster => arrive a little sooner => less cars on the
road, less conjestion, less accidents.

Other than the compression waves that extend behind the guy who
brakes that's true. Unfortunately, on a busy road, that effect
overwhelms any benefit from speed.

There is a bit of compression wave happening right there. Can you hear
it ? It makes a kind of a whooshing sound. ;-)

It's the people that don't leave gaps that are the problem.
Typically, everyone's worried the agressive cutters are getting an
unfair advantage, so refuse to leave gaps for them. No gaps for them
means inefficient merging and lane changes for _everyone_, which leads
to merging and turnoff points causing slow-downs.
It also compounds that compression wave problem (which don't form
at all if everyone's running big enough gaps).

It's ignorance. If a driver wants to go fast, let it be. That person
may have a reason for it. It may be a silly one, it may be a serious
one. Running late for work, for a date, just being stupid, whatever.
Who cares, give them space and let them go and it's likely we'll all
arrive alive.

It's also likely they'll misjudge something and crash into a tree. Or
another car. Speed limits save lives.

When Jackie's son(from her dim dark past) fell off the tree and broke
his (fucking ?) head on the concrete, i quietly thanked every driver
who noticed my blazing headlights and got out of the way and had i've
had the time, would have made a collection of tracheas from the ones
who thought "hey, i'm doing 60, *** off" and blocked me on purpose.

Yeah but you're not saying that every speeder has an injured person in
their back seat though, are you? You're not seriously suggesting I
have to kneecap a hitchhiker every time I feel like exceeding the
speed limit, right?
