I'll correct a few points for you:

1) Two lifeguards were bashed by a group of people of Lebanese/Middle
Eastern appearance.
2) The papers went to town, as these lifeguards are volunteers (not the
paid people some might see on the Hoff's Baywatch). They give up their
own time to watch over us and protect us at the beaches. So, lifeguards
are sacrosanct.

This is not an isolated incident. There has been a marked increase of
these incidents happening across Sydney. Bashings at train stations,
shopping centres, football matches (all of the codes), swimming pools,
not to mention gang rapes of teenage girls that are being told they're
getting done "leb style".

With that fuel and the spark of the bashing and a little further heat
being added by the media, it erupted into frenzied scenes at North
Cronulla on Sunday afternoon. Caucasian Australians made arses of
themselves, getting pissed and chanting "no more lebs" and harrassing
Lebanese people whom reside in the area or who may have been visiting.
Ambulance officers were pelted while trying to help the bashing victims,
mounted police were pelted trying to ease the rioters.

After a day of sunshine and booze took it's toll on the whiteys, that
was when we saw revenge attacks. A convoy of over 20 cars riding into
the Sutherland area smashing everything to be seen: cars, windows and
shop fronts.

A man was stabbed in the back and media reporters have been set upon and
threatened with death to them.

That's not it. It's a product of the divisiveness of Howard's Australia.

With what I've seen, you don't even have to say anything to get a knife
in the back. It's not that simple Frank. It's even happening at the
race-tracks in Sydney: Western Sydney International Dragway has seen it
happening all the time. People getting beaten so that others can get
more runs in.

Which we're not far from I'm afraid. I work in an area that many of
these people come from (not the shire, but the Southwest of Sydney).

They're far angrier than that. Instead of it being one mob vs the
police, it is one mob vs another mob with the police not having the
training, the numbers of the powers to do anything.

To fight another day.

Absolutely. I'm glad I'll be in QLD for New Years. God forbid the
trouble that's going to happen in Sydney this New Years... I've just got
this horrible feeling in my gut.
