Quite a bit of emotion bottled up in the fans as well. :-) PT, you either

Interesting. To me, it wouldn't have mattered who made that particular move. Beyond bad judgement, it endangered himself and the other dirver(s) involved.
I'm usually a Tracy fan and generally give him the benefit of the doubt as he is a very aggressive driver. But not this time.
IMO, Tag (or anybody else in his position) had some justification for his actions. Inexcusable, but understandable. A few words of apology just doesn't cut it. Regardless of who it is, Champ Car should give the offending driver, in this case PT, a few races to cool down before they let him back on the track. AND they should tell Tag to cool off before the next race.
Well just to play devil advocate a minute, Champ Car does not have a history of setting people down because of bonehead moves. Are you willing to set down Katherine Legge too for a move that most would call bonehead, particularly the one where she was racing with someone when she was 7 laps down. Should Paul be subjected to a worse penality than historically they have handed down because he is Paul Tracy and has a big mouth at times?
IIRC, Legge's incident did not endanger herself or other drvers in the same way Tracy's did. She made a rookie mistake and will probably be on the receiving end of a few well-deserved harsh words.
The penalty to Tracy, as I stated above (please re-read the post) has nothing to do with the driver being Tracy. It has to do with the kind of move and how he clearly endangered another driver. There was no escape for Tag. I'd have the same opinion if the positions were reversed or if two other drivers were involved.
If they felt the move was done to intentionally cause a wreck, then I would agree with you. That clearly wasn't the case here. He misjudged the closing rate and the acceleration rate, and maybe he thought Tags would see him and cut him a break. I don't think Tag's could see him as it appeared to my eye to be a blind corner. Yet there is nothing to indicate that this was intentional, unlike say the Schumacher Villeunue video which clearly shows Michael's "intentional but instinctive" move in an attempt to win a championship. A move like that if I were in charge, Michael would be banned for life.
When a drver leaves the racing surface, he does not have the right to enter when he wants. He must wait for a clear track.
The only incdent that IMO even comes close is when Mario hit a parked car. but he didn't endanger anyone else. It was only his brain-dead actions that endangered himself.
I don't disagree with your observations and opinion about Schumi. He's a great driver, but there are times when the line must be drawn.
Was Tag's justified in being mad? Absolutely, but he would have been much better served to cool down first. Granted that he got his say in the first time he confronted Paul, but where Tag's went wrong in my opinion is when they separated he went back at Paul. Reports say Paul had already apologized and taken responsibility for the accident which he did on camera as well, then Tag's came back and that that point Paul clearly made the point don't touch me. (if media reports are correct) Only then did Paul react when Tag's didn't back off.
No doubt Tag should have been grabbed by his team to cool off before confronting PT. As stated above, Champ Car should give Tag careful instructions before the next race. A probation period would be justfied.
Frankly Id would have rather seen Bronte go after him. Bet network tv would have covered the fight then.
