Re: Make of this what you will...

Both these series have POOR TV ratings and POOR Sponsorship
opportunities.
Worse than this the IRL's penchant for OW Ovals racing has been a
failure in terms of both TV and live fans interest. Like it or not the
ONLY Oval worth anything is the I500 and this is getting rates 1/3rd of
it's former levels. Only a probable one off DP mania sSpike helped a
wee bit in 2005. As this hype will likely recede in 2006 so will stand
alone I500 ratings fall again.
Just as the manufacturers bailed on CART so have they bailed on the IRL
and only Honda has held them together. WHich puts Honda in a position
of authority and they want a single series.
By comparison CC has 6-8 really big weekend events, but NO equivalent
of the I500.
Simply put:
The IRL is close to failure and the I500 is a shadow of it's former
self and the big money has departed the series.
The CCWS has a part ime Ford support only, few Sponsors and 6-8 decent
events (none Ovals)

The problems of both series stand a much better chance of being
remedied if they unify PERIOD.

If they don't merge the IRL and I500 decline will likely continue and
risks loss of their TV package soon.

If they don't merge CC has ALL their bet's on gaining future new
international Sponsors all TBA.....

Neither side has a full clip of "name" drivers simply because neither
gets anything more than minimal media support.

It really doesn't matter which series one prefers to watch it's
question of should 2 crippled series risk both failing or if put
together 1 + 1 could equal 4 or 5 within a few years.
