I seem to remember this suggestion a while back and I tried it and it works
as advertised:
For a 100% leakproof seal of assemblies, use a conventional paper/fibre
gasket to which both sides have been coated with a thin layer of Genuine GE
100% Silicone Rubber (Clear). If you also wet the two metal surfaces with
this sealant, you can be assured of 100% contact.
Such an assembly technique will not prevent easy disassembly when required.
