What lug nuts are made of aluminum??? They should be steel.
Aluminum is too soft.

Just about any Porsche. But I think the more spendy models
might get Ti. I wouldn't know; I don't run in those circles
:) I'm not about to question Porsche's engineers though, as if
there's any group of guys that seem to manage to consistently
make reliable, fast, light hardware it's the Porsche AG
engineering department.

No way those are aluminum. The studs are steel, the lug nuts
are steel, otherwise you'll have all sorts of corrosion
problems due to dissimilar metals.

Actually,I believe there are AL wheel nuts;I googled it.
he also posted a link to the particular part.
they were also hard-anodized.

They were aftermarket. And while they were anodized, I don't
think anodization increases tensile strength of the part
appreciably. I would think you would have a problem with the
torque specs of the bolt, as those are directly related to the
thread strength of the fastener*

(* Note: I am not a mechanical engineer, but I'll check w/ a buddy
of mine who is on this statement).

Oh,I agree that IMO,Al is too soft a metal for wheel nuts on standard wheel
studs.
Of course, there are some alloys like Al-Scandium that are really tough.
(used in firearms,baseball bats)

there also are corrosion inhibitor coatings for Al.

I'd rather use Titanium if I were worried about weight.
