Following the tree up I see they give travel times at that speed. That's
the beauty of using a limited access highway the way it was intended. The
problem is that drivers with no concept of lane discipline make the roads
less safe than they should be and reduce the travel speeds.

A 135mph on an empty interstate just isn't a problem. Certainly isn't
worth worrying about. Also of note, the cop was out running a speed trap
on an empty interstate... meanwhile who knows what real dangerous
asshattery was going on elsewhere.

I would qualify that; I semi-regularly see motorcyclists going close
to that fast on US-50. when you're doing 65-80 MPH (normal range of
speeds for that road) and someone is closing on you at 120+ you may do
a mirror check, see that all is clear, pull out to pass, and find you
have to abort halfway through because suddenly there's a bike getting
ready to become one with your trunk lid. I don't have a problem with
bikers going fast on a truly empty highway but it scares the crap out
of me when they do it in heavy traffic.

I did... the word empty is there :) A sunday summer evening on the dan
ryan expressway is the perfect place to see truely stupid riding at
120mph.... Ever been lane split by someone doing a 120mph in heavy
traffic? I have. Mayor (King Richard) Daley had a solution to
motorcyclists turning themselves into paste on the dan ryan.... a helmet
law for bicyclists and roller bladers. How it would keep motorcyclists
from killing themselves at a 120mph on the dan ryan I don't know, but
that was what he decided to pursue as the government response a few years
back when there was a rash of crotch rocket riders winning the darwin
prize.
