While she was definitely overreacting, I think you minimize the impact
that you may have had.

You say traffic was backed up 3.4 miles. What would happen if
EVERYONE left 5-6 car lengths in front of them? Theorhetically you'd
be backed up 15-20 miles, right?

But if you come back up to their bumper when traffic slows, nothing at
all happens - other than you and traffic behind you save wear and tear
on brakes, clutch, etc.

Yep. And it gets better. If even a few behind you use the same
tactic then the ones behind -them- get to move farther on each move
but it still doesnt' affect tail end charlie's arrival time at the
stop..
