Ever drove to a Costco? Ever gone inside Costco? Do you see how huge
and how expansive the whole interiorior operation is? The whole
building is basically a WAREHOUSE which in this case is used like a
giant retail store. It's got FORK LIFTS and endless isles stacked with
various products.
Costco is unsafe on the West Coast because in earthquake country a good
shaking will cause tons and tons of crates and boxes of goods to fall
on top of the thousands of customers below them!!! Once this happens
we will see some of the biggest law suits that this Country has yet to
see!
How is that different from any other major retailer such as Best Buy or
Circuit City or even Wal-Mart? Some stores may have less of a warehouse
look to them, but if you look up you will see really heavy objects stacked
up way above your head, sometimes on pallets, even. These stores wouldn't
be any safer in an earthquake. Heck, the local wal-mart has large
flat-screen televisions (the ginormous CRT type) stacked up in large piles
way off the ground. Anyone standing in the electronics section during an
earthquake is going to be flattened.
I think you need to chill, man. You are much more likely to die in your car
on the way to Costco when that cellphone talking soccer mom drives her 4-ton
SUV over you. -Dave
