Well, why not? Perhaps there is a gene which increases a person's
propensity for getting lung cancer, and that same gene also causes
above average toenail length.

If that hasn't been studied yet, it's because nobody has funded it,
and because it's less of a priority than the other million and one
things that are waiting to be studied (what difference would it
make even if someone did discover that having short toenails
means you are immune to lung cancer?)
