Roger Kennedy (a tube tester technician of some repute) has told me a

Can anyone recommend a shop that can re-wind the coil in my AVO's
meter?
Thanks
A couple of things:
a) It depends on where the circuit is 'open'. Typically it is at the
connections, not in the body of the coil.
b) If you can somehow re-make that connection, you could repair the
problem. I have no idea how accessible the meter movement might be in
that unit, but if you can get to it, and unwind the broken end one
turn, you just might be able to re-solder - and one winding is not
going th make a whit of difference.
But, with any VOM, you should be able to derive the parameters of the
meter and find an appropriate substitute even if not identical to what
is there. Analog or digital. All that would remain is for you to redo
the scale.
Patience and good luck with it!
