The drunk might have well needed the hospital if that had happened in
here... in Texas..

It is quite likely that if the police heavies had not
turned up when they did, he would have been set upon.

He faces serious charges - but no punishment will
equal the punishment which he inflicted on that poor
girl-a smashed lower torso and severe internal injuries.

Alcometer locks are beng tested here in Scadinavia.
They would make a huge contribution to traffic safety.

Is it not a tradition that in cold climates with long dark winters that
people drink to get warm?

Here ppl drink to cool off.

There is always an excuse to drink, and then drive.

That drunk you saw didn't intend harm, and the girl was in the wrong
place at the wrong time. The accident was an accident, and it is
possible that it coud have happened or something similar even if the guy
hadn't been drinking.

But your'e right about alco-carlocks. Then you have to worry about
people popping pils and smoking dope, and using phones and arguing with
their wives in cars as they drive, and sometimes doing several of the
above at the same time.

In 1972 with 1/4 of the cars now on the roads, and with worse roads than
now, the Oz road toll was 3,000 per year.
Now its declined to 1,600, despite the huge increase in driven
kilometres.
Seatbelts and very stiff drink driving laws have made a huge reduction
in the road toll. And people like that girl get millions in compensation
payouts.

But 1,600 unecessary deaths still occur.

And there isn't anywhere people can *easily* hide from modern society.
