I should have said, has anybody noticed the reading change when tapping on tubes.
Can't say if you have never did this yourself.
Sure, I have noticed readings change when I tap tubes. Some are noisy,
some are microphonic so there will be a momentary change with a tap.
Some either have dirty/oxidized pins or slightly bent pins, sometimes
a tap will make better contact in the socket. So far, I have never had
a reading change that was due to something happening *inside* the tube
that was other than momentary. This is excepting internally damaged
tubes, of course.
And, yes, sometimes the reading changes when I tap the meter... And I
was always taught to 'tap the meter' when taking calibration readings
- just to make sure the needle has stopped moving and is not binding.
I keep a 539B, not quite as TOL as your C have, but similar enough. I
also use socket-savers for the octals and miniatures.
