Graham. You mentioned EN 60065 earlier in another
thread Being in audio manufacture, I suppose you know
these regs well.

I do.

Could you tell us what they say about tube amplifiers
in particular? I am sure this is a subject of interest to
all of us.

The sum total of ZERO. There is nothing whatever specific to valve
amplifiers. They have to obey just the same rules as everything else to
which 60065 applies.

OK. let me put my question another way.
Please tell us what we should take into account
when building a tube amp to ensure that it complies.

I have been told that a filtered IEC power socket is
now specified. Some people say this should have a fuse
on both the L and the N side (because the Schuko Euro
connector can be plugged in either way round?)

All pure nonsense. The fuse has nothing to do with 'electrocution'
issues whatever. The fuse is simply there to prevent fire hazard.

OK.

The statement that the chassis must be bonded to ground
has got through to just about everyone, except some Chinese.

Not required if it's ClassII of course.

Agreed. But the vast majority of tube amps are Class I,
with all that it implies.

The user must not be able to touch 'live' parts. It'll be covered by
that.

What else can you tell us?

It's 138 pages in all !

Yes. I have read it in three languages. But there are constant
references to other numbered sub-regs which are not part of
EN 60065 which seems more like an overview. It covers a
huge range of electrical equipment and apparatus. I am
interested to know how it specifically relates to the kind of
equipment built by people on this forum.

Please give us the benefit of your knowledge

Thanks in advance
Iain
