Unfortunately, trying to nicely ask Phil to conform to
"reasonable" gentlemanly rules of discourse won't have a positive
outcome for you.
Calling him stupid won't either!
Offering an ultimatum, ie, "Quit the crap or leave." will probably
bring you right into Phil's sights and you'll cop a real blast.
Don't say you didn't ask for it.

But most of us have come to smile at his antics when he's riled up.

Big deal indeed, eh.

I've witnessed Phil's shitty coloured outpourings for about 6 years
online now,
and he really hasn't soured me, or changed my generally placid but firm,
and tolerant nature,
although I once argued that were something really horrid happen to him,
then I wouldn't cry a single tear.
He then accused me of threatening him, because I was seen by him to be
urging someone, anyone, to
do something horrid. So I repeated how I felt, dishing as much dirt out
as he did,
and it simply seemed to exhaust him. And I did NOT run away like so many
have from r.a.t, just like frightened
chooks when some fox stalking about looks hungry.
But that was after a particularly stormy attempt to upset me with lies
upon lies and
and piles of filth.
Finally, he worked out it hurts him more than me to to waste so much
time
being verbally violent.


Phil has been like sulphuric acid poured on each and every discussion,
and its because he has not the slightest tolerance for tomfoolery
and/or incorrect statements about technical matters.

In every society, a certain definate percentage of adults
is criminal, or fucks its own children, or abuses anyone and everyone
all day long, or has all manner of hard to get along with behaviours.
Osama Bin Laden likes to blow up folks who disagree, and George
Bush also likes to do a fair amount of that.


The sooner your children learn the nature of the real world, the better,
and they need to equip themselves early in life to counter the
destructive effects
of people they find to be abusive rather than spend their lives running
away or putting their
heads into sand, or up their own arses, ie, just being stubborn and
wrong, or
unable to handle criticism.

I suggest your children learn to kick arse real soon pal, rather than
later, but only when
necessary, and if there is an outcome worth it.
Fighting among humans is NORMAL. Before we evolved into humans, just
about every other critter
ever allowed to evolve by whatever force promoted evolution decided to
fight it out
with critters with the same genes or ones that were different.
Life when its living has been fishing and hunting and ripping plants to
bits for hundreds of millions of years.
Its a little difficult to teach it to do it some other way....
And we do it all without guilt, mostly, this warring, even just for fun,
but without much blood
as in games of football.....

Phil criticises others most fairly most days, except he underlines it
all with
a big line which is *** draped across the message.

This is Phil's only way to try to force ppl to NOT POST TECHNICAL
BULL***.
He wants them to think very carefully before posting, and many simply
don't.

He does not have the patience or time to offer arguments which refute
the technical bull***
postings which repeatedly come up, and he expects ppl to find reasons
for their errors themselves; he does nobody the slightest favours at all
anytime,
except to state that someone is a fuckhead etc for saying something
ill-concieved or wrong.

I am sure your children will find it most difficult to survive at the
universities in later life unless they learn to READ the essence of a
post,
and IGNORE the personal attack for a second at least to see
exactly who is right and wrong about the topic being discussed.

When someone here has very good reasons to disagree and say why, they
should,
and whether thay need to copy Phil's bedside manner is up to them.
I personally try not to get too personal, but I am amazed anyone
could read all the posts here everyday and feel fulfilled with wisdom
about vacuum tube use.
Most posts are TOTAL BULL*** entirely off topic, and all about guys
sniping at each other.

You really should expose your children to what really happens between
people
lest they be hoodwinked into thinking is a real nice world they are in.

It fucking ain't a nice world. There is a tremendous amount of angst
about everything,
and sham and dishonesty, bastardry, and basically, I'd be happy if about
at least 10%
of the human race died tomorrow.

Phil forces ppl to face their technical misconceptions straightaway.

Many don't, and are fools because of it.

Approximately 67% of the Internet traffic is explicit sexual material,
ie, mainly pictures of cunts and cocks going at each other etc.

I'm wondering just how many guys have their children present when they
are jerking off
while viewing this torrent of sexualia so they'll learn about sex too.
Very few, I'd reckon.

Obviusly, we live in a very inconsistent world, we have all made it that
way
and with all these funny rules and we muddle along
with our shams, ie, we keep the kids out of the room when Internet Sex
is underway
because we feel so horny and there's no woman around to help us.
Just wait until 2070, and the means by which the sexual itch is relieved
will be quite beyond
anything you can imagine.

Most kids find adult sex boring or just funny, once they realise the
screams
are for pleasure not pain, and it'd be grand if they learnt to
find ppl like Phil just boring or funny. Then they'd move right along,
and perhaps do something useful, like study hard and find a cure for
cancer etc.

Or just as good, perhaps they'll find a way to stop spammers,
and that'd almost be equal to a cancer cure.
Making solar power systems more than 70% efficient would be nice too,
but alas, that'd allow everyone to have nearly free electricity and
energy,
so we'd rape the planet even harder than we are doing now.

Last but not least in my response to your comments
is that these groups were invented for lofty minds in the military
or at universities to be able to discuss matters.
But the Internet since about 1998 has become the People's Net,
and so completely undisciplined and ignorant people can join in with
the generals and professors. These types don't like mixing it with
ordinary mortals, so there are no generals or professors here at r.a.t.

And nothing is here to prevent ordinary folks being here.
Or un-ordinary folks.

So over time the Usernet groups have evolved like this one where just
about
everyone is formerly UN-EDUCATED, ie, not part of a clique with the same
ideas,
and often with no formal university educational credentials, and have
only
a degree from the School Of Life And Hard Knocks, SOLAHK,
so its like a public bar, where anyone can turn up to buy a drink, and
start a brawl if they feel like it.
There is no security guy to stop anyone entering.
Its complete democracy without democratic regulation.

Children should learn as early as possible about the diversity of good
and bad spread among the
population, and about the presence of bull***. At least buy them
gumboots.
They need gumboots, large shovel, broom, and wheel barrow for Net
discussions,
and a vast pit into which bull*** can be tipped.

Children's bull*** detection systems should be trained very early in
life so
they are never to be ensnared by child molestors, radical religious
movements, barmy
political views, and crapology about how to lead a life.

So it merely wastes a whole pile of time to remain upset by anyone here
at this group.

I have read what they say on other less well populated groups which are
stricly moderated,
and frankly, they bore me silly.
No depth, and no passion either.
There has been more deep and meaningful stuff said here about vacuum
tube usage than anywhere else on ther NET.
Check the archives, I know I'm right.
There are about 6.5 billion ppl in the world, and it is surprizing
so few ppl weanna talk about tubes....

There are other educated ppl in institutions where they have their own
much more
heavily regulated and censored and controlled email groups.
Pity help you if you say the work "***". You'd be chucked out.

Such regulated places are stiflingly boring places to find oneself.

Usernet IS for kids if they can handle it, IMHO.

I don't recommend they spend time at the "adult" addresses where the
greatest data flow exists
in the form of pornography.

But nobody can really stop a child from finding where the porn is, and
having a look in.

Nobody can stop them finding books on Communism and Alternative
Lifestyles.
Let them read, let them look, and let them decide.
The best we can do is point out where danger lurks, but ultimately,
they'll decide what's dangerous for themselves.

Children will probably be warped a bit by their exposure to pornography,
art, culture, sport
and 1,001 other things, and its entirely unavoidable, but I for one will
not spank any child for
being inquisitive, and I don't plan to clean the world of its filth any
time soon.
The pile of filth is far too large. OK, so I know how to ignore it or
walk around it.

The gradual destruction of old fashioned morals by exposure to the
Internet
will have a net result of changing the way family life is experienced;
there will be more uncertain families,
and folks will just get more used to uncertainty, which is the position
of any wise person;
he/she does not mind they don't know all about everything, and that they
have not "got everything".
And besides, so many people learn that reading and net use is so much
better than small talk with siblings
or parents or partners.
Lust and the drive to make babies in humans is enough to
make sure the species continues, all too well I believe, as you can see
the way our species increases
and damages the world environment beyond its capacity to absorb the
damage.
The crapology and BS and porn on the Net will merely make
ppl slightly less able to make long time relationships, not a bad thing
if
what is good for the planet is less people. Their increasing prosperity
will aford them
a fast divorce when they want one and a fresh partner.

Anyway, we all need your children to know about life and how best to fix
problems.

Being too protective would hinder them, and make life for the rest of us
worse,
for indirectly, we all depend on the gained wisdom of youth.

I've found the Net has speeded up my mind, made me far less naive,
increased my wisdom,
and given me entertainment that could never have happened any other way.

Its exposed me to people very different to myself, and OK, so they are
different.
So what, eh?

I am free to speak my mind.
