Hi, it's me, the founder of rec.audio.tubes.

If you look at the charter I wrote for this group (John Byrns posted a
copy not long ago), you'll see that personal attacks and flame wars
are not allowed. Apparently, not everyone has seen this, so I thought
I should point it out.

I'm sure that things will be much more civil now that everyone knows
the rules.

Well, it was worth a shot, anyway... :)

Yes, I'm sure the problem is now solved.

Commenting on the posts over the past six months (as long as I've been
following RAT) it appears that there are several posters who are incredibly
prolific. Whereas the majority of these posters are quite knowledgeable in
the area of tube audio, they appear to have an extremely difficult time
sticking to topics posted without needlessly trashing one another. Put
another way, they fail to adhere to the norms of social decency by which one
might differentiate, say, a discussion amongst professionals from a bunch of
overtired whining children.

My take on it is that these people simply a) have too much time on their
hands and b) have very little else in the way of a life if they can devote
so much of their time and mental effort into such useless drivel. That type
of behaviour conjures up images of anti-social freaks frantically typing out
insults while they jerk off in front of their computer screens.

I would also offer my bit of pschotherapeutic advice to these individuals,
which could very well help them figure out that there's a whole wide world
out there which they could participate in... shut off your computer for one
month. One month. No newsgroups, no internet, no "cyber-interaction". Do
something else with the time you might otherwise waste lambasting each other
with childish insults... anything, anything at all. Go for a walk. Talk to
your wife, or go find one. Read a book. See a movie. Go on an adventure,
a train ride, a car trip. The possibilities are endless, and may just open
your eyes to something you haven't seen before. Give it a try and shut the
damn thing off.
