Re: At-home with the thieves Gregg, Tim Williams and Choky

You haven't been following this too closely, have you, Max? Choky, the
poorest of this lot of scumball thieves, is an electrical engineer, a
member of the communist elite whether under the old regime or the new;
in his environment he is rich.

Communist engineers are not by default rich... in fact, you may very well be better off working in a store selling some kind
of consumer junk you managed to get accross the border. One guy I knew from the SU said the best way to judge the quality of
your job (in the communist era), was to evaluate how useful the items you can steal from work were.

Engineering was one thing they (commies) took really seriously, and as a result, there's a huge number of them!

The rest of this... well, I hope Reed publishing takes notice and puts an end to this topic one way or another ;)

Carriage is what really costs, rather than the
books themselves.

Unless of course, you live in a major city... in that case, carriage is non existant.

I don't know that one. I must look out for it. The RDH4, while
brilliant at being a core reference, makes very dry reading indeed;
there are times, dipping into it in my bath, where I do a lot of my
reading, I hate that dry factual style. I like Gilbert Briggs, an old
fashioned gentleman and a crisp stylist, as was Peter Walker.

Audel's is a very very American series of books... they did them on electricity, on automotives, on radio/electronics,
metalworking, and a multitude of other topics. I have a couple of them, and really enjoy reading about the golden age of
American industry. It's not high brow stuff, but it's not dry, and it can be entertaining to read. They updated the series all
the way through the 70s, but I prefer the 1940s leather bound editions.

I agree with you about Briggs, Walker I can't comment on aside from reading a few of his wireless world articles.
