If you are working only on the popular guitar amps building your own
tester specifically to test the common types makes more sense and would
be very educational. It can also double, with a scope, as a
curvetracer.

Please buy a copy of Alan Douglas' book or get it from interlibrary
loan so libraries will buy them.
