What do you folks use for punching a hole

canned capacitors, like the one below?

Punching a round/square hole is simple enough
with the right chassis punch. But how do builders
out there deal with these twist tabs and getting
a secure mount on the chassis top? From the
factory, these go into a punched slot around
a hole.
I'd like to eventually build some professional
looking amplifiers, without putting the huge
capacitors underneath the chassis (they take
up too much room). I don't want to haggle out
holes with a file and dremil tool.
Why not buy caps without the awkward tabs ?
Graham
You can buy phenolic spacer / mounts that have the cutouts for the tabs.
All that is needed is a round hold and two holes on either side for
mounting
screws. It doesn't offer a great deal of structural strength (you can
break
the spacer) but it works if you don't abuse the amp.

Yep, this spacer also gives options as to where to ground the cap as it will
be isolated from the chassis. The spacers are located in the capacitor
hardware section of the same website.
None of the caps I would ever buy for a tube amp have these bloomin old
fashioned tabs that you twist with pliers to retain the cap. The mounting method
was only used in mass produced amps
and radios to save labour costs. The tags were soldered to the chassis because
the tabs were the -ve side the cap.
I never have a direct connection of the 0V rail in the amp to the the chassis so
I'd never want to connect the
-ve side of caps to the chassis, since it can lead to noise problems.
