Rarely discussed here.

Anything new, impressive or exciting amongst current production valve
amps?

I am impressed by the commitment of Chinese producers. Presumably
traditional suppliers are attempting to add value, drop prices, or give
up?

cheers, Ian

There seem to be a number of small, bespoke manfacturers, who can
offer a very high build quality and flexibility. I am thinking of a chap
I know
in Sweden, who treats every order as a separate project. If a customer
wants
a preamp with six input, five on RCA and one balanced on XLR then that's
what he gets. He offers a five year warranty, and has a full order book.
Who could wish for more?

Excellent but I suspect bespoke is going to cost??

My own experiences with Chinese amps have been less than favourable.
I live in Scandinavia. Most Chinese amps don't have a CE mark and so
are not sold here via dealers. The craze for bringing in these amplifiers
direct has
now passed. They have no proper warranty. Who do you turn to when
the thing goes bang?

Truly a Chinese cracker!!
I believe the Chinese will learn very quickly to produce good amplifiers.
Electronic goods from emerging sectors are initially poor. Consider the
output and the reliability now of domestic electronic goods from Japan,
Korea, Malasia etc. Why don't you contact a Chinese factory and offer your
expertise, I'm sure you'll get paid &looked after very well, plus all the
Chinese carry outs you can eat ;-)
Consider that presently half the world's production of concrete and one
third of steel output is being consumed in China's building boom (A
different Boom from their amps failing ;-)

The Chinese amps are cosmetically beautiful, but seem to be poorly
constructed, with "Elps" (sic) attenuators, and very small potted
transformers.
They seem to run for about a year.

Reminds me of the fake Rolex watches sold to unsuspecting tourists, about
the same lifespan!
The gold turns green and the cockroach that drives the mechanism dies :-)

At first I thought that access to cheaper tube audio on an entry level
would
be a good thing. But, if these products prove to be unreliable, I am not
so
sure. Many people alrerady have a poor misconcenption of what tube audio
is all about.

I couldn't agree more!

N.b. Fitted six of 6H23pi-EB to my pre-amp to day, very pleased with the
result.
