So the comparison is not so far afield.
Actually, if you track this back to about 18 months ago when it all
started, I popped across to RAT because I'd seen a reference to the
KISS project, and I thought it might be interesting. I was at that
time unfamiliar with the name of Andre Jute, so I assumed that this
was someone who knew what he was doing, and would be providing an
interesting series of articles on the general design process for a
'minimalist' amp.
Having read the first article, I began to realise the awful truth, but
I posted a straightforward and reasonably worded rebuttal of several
technical inaccuracies and false assumptions in the underlying
philosophy of KISS. Jute's response was not to address the technical
points I had made, but to create half a dozen personal attack threads
and generally throw his toys out of the pram. It all kinda went
downhill from there, which is partly my fault for feeding the troll.
My 'differences' with tubies are not that fundamental in the sense
that I recognise tube amps as very attractive to the hobbyist, but I
will point out the technical shortcomings, and I will blow away the
smoke abd nmirrors, and general bull*** surrounding them. As for
'tubecraft', I'm sorry, but this technology was fully mature forty
years ago, pretty much when valves became obsolete in audio
amplifiers. If you want to play with different circuit configurations
to see what they do, that's fine as a hobby, but optimised tube
circuits have been done to death for *decades*.
