I wish you had quoted more, anyway most cartridges have a channel
balance issue, say a dB, as has most preamps, so the first 2 db of
imbalance is easily accounted for. As I recall this issue it was about
vinyl transfers.

How do you define "even out"?

Most of the time the "same level" is about same average level, but some
of the time very transient instruments in one channel off-set the
perception, so if all else fails: listen. That said, it is actually
quite easy to estimate channel balance by simply looking at the
graphical display of the curve form.

Always listen, also if it is a cartridge or riaa preamp issue it will be
the same difference all the time. I can only remember one vinyl record
in my collection that has a serious general imbalance.

Phase is not likely to be an issue in this perception context.
