There is in Cool Edit Pro (and probably in other versions) under Options/Device_Order a panel for Recording Devices. The entry really should be your sound card which means that any problems hearing the CD should be sound card related rather than Cool Edit.

What are you using, a sound card or a motherboard chip? What is the make and model?
