Localization of musical material is by:

1. Intensity (low frequencies)
2. Time of arrival (high frequencies)

A phase shift seems to damage the ability of the ear to localize. A simple
experiment you can perform: Reverse the cable +/- connections on ONE speaker
of a pair. A central source will no longer appear centered between the
speakers.

People are susceptible to "motion sickness" to varying degrees. This occurs
when the semicircular canals of the inner ear perceive gravitational force
different from what the picture is telling the brain. Perhaps in some
people, nausea could be induced by an analogous discombobulated audio image.
