I rarely find manuals that I have to read on the computer useful for getting oriented, but thanks for the link. It does offer a few clues, most of which I've explored already. I've managed to get some audio in and some audio out by fooling around with JACK, but then I do something, thinking I'm taking the next step, and audio (in or out) goes away.
It looks like I should probably forget everything I know about a DAW and try to deal with this on its own terms. Or just fuhgeddaboutit.
