Part of what happens to the SM-57 at high levels is that the diaphragm
motion starts becoming uneven because the rolled surround at the edge
of the diaphragm gets out of the range where it's linear. This causes
a sound that everybody seems to like.

So here is a question I have been wondering about lately..
When you stick a dynamic mic in front of an amp speaker, how much of
the signal that the mic picks up is picked up by DIRECT MAGNETIC
COUPLING from the speaker voice coil or the output transformer to the
mic voice coil or mic matching transformer.
This direct signal will obviously have a much different character to
it then the acoustically coupled sound.
I'd like to do an experiment with a de-diaphramed mic and measure it.
