who do you know around your location that will support your learning
curve??
go with their recommendation as they will be your hands on help!!-

Everybody I know is into video, not audio!

and they can not offer any reference to someone around you who would
be available to assist?? sometimes it helps if you can interact with
the knowledge base of an actual physical being and not a cyber being.

Like another poster, I got into TV after years in audio (but before
the audio change to computers), and I spend most of my time in the TV
world. In the same time period, I relocated to a place where I don't
know as many people, and got a life with wife and kids. Today, I run
the station.

Why do I have to defend not scrambling around to to find someone with
the specialized knowledge to answer my question? There are, in fact, a
lot of people in THIS group who have relevant information, with
recognized experts like Scott, Mike and Paul, and it is a convenient
and quick way to shorcut the process and immediately connect with
people who can help.

I don't know how man times I've seen questions posted in this and
video groups, and some posters have ridiculed the original questioned.
If I know the answer, I jump in and answer politely, no matter how
much of a neophyte the questioned is. It's called politeness,
professional courtesy, all that sort of thing.

Some day, you might need a recommendation for a good grade of video
coax to carry SDI on short runs, and which brands of connectors (and
cutter and crimper) work best with it. Guess what? I'll give you the
advice without questioning your ability to figure it out on your own.
There is something about these UseNet groups that brings out cynicism.

and if I ask about video, thanks ... but
I do not own a television and do not plan on ever doing such a thing.

but in response to your questions,
my suggestion was based on how observation of someone with more
knowledge is sometimes _better_then reading about it.
a book and on-line help for many things does not beat someone who can
physically show/explain/demonstrate a killer trick which shortens the
processes.
and based on your ignorance of even pro-tools protocol
Can I use Pro Tools on a PC? What kind of input output card?
( they come with a hardware dongle(their own I/O is required for pro-
tools to work)), maybe someone local who could help/assist/console is
a blessing when beginning a new endeavor.
maybe you can teach yourself to golf from books, a few lessons with a
golf pro can really get you ahead in the game!
