Good point and nice lateral thinking. I'll suggest this to him.
Or, if he can play only one note anyway, there is no compelling
reason for him to keep his hand horizontal. If it were me, I would
try putting my hand vertical and playing with the "side" of my little
finger. No special keyboard or orthotic appliance required.
