Don't do it. Call John Hardy and tell him your story. He has a retrofit
board that drops a 990-based transformer-isolated preamp stage effectively
identical to his standalone preamp, into an MCI console. I am not sure it
will fit into the 600, but he will know. It should be a lot cheaper than
a rack full of standalone consoles with metalwork and power supplies, and
it should sound pretty much the same thing.
I'm pretty sure John has a version that fits the MCI 600 series.
