Can't say I much care for your condescension. Tell me, does it ever result
in someone *not* disliking you?

People generally don't come here to be liked.
They come here for technical information. And that
typically requires sufficient details to understand
exactly the circumstances to the answers accurate.

Requests for assistance lacking pertinent information are commonplace
and largely a waste of both an OP's and respondents' time.

Please explain how the precise model of a MAC can be considered "pertinent
information" when "_every_ model offers that feature".

At the danger of repeating myself (not to mention stating
the obvious) we were asking about model identification
BEFORE it was revealed that all current models use the
industry standard 3.5mm connector.

Read the topic of the thread again. It just doesn't get more simple than
that, does it? Now ask yourself why you're making such a big deal of the
missing model ID, when it has absolutely no bearing on said question,
which was a simple "y/n".

We didn't know "y/n" *at the time*.

Note also that this is an audio newsgroup, NOT a newsgroup
about apple (or any other computer) hardware or software.
If you had asked this question in an Apple newsgroup, you
likely would have had your answer instantly as they are much
more likely to use it every day.

You could learn more from this thread than merely what a Mac
offers in the way of audio output.

Not my concern, nor my responsibility, sorry. I asked a y/n question, and
anyone insisting on knowing the model of MAC before answering simply
overplayed their hand and looked silly.

If I can be humble enough to admit to Richard, as I just did a minute ago,
that I didn't include the model like I thought I did, then maybe you can
dial down the 'tude a notch or two and recognize that the above makes some
measure of sense... for a rookie.

It also makes you seem too lazy to go the the apple website
yourself and see the models (and maybe even the answer to
your own question) without having to write out your question
and wait for an answer.

We also get lots of people coming here asking questions which
they could have found answers for with a 2-second Google search.
Yours is a good example. You can just breeze in and ask a
question. But from our POV, it gets tiresome responding to
questions that have been answered dozens of times. And
tedious replying to people who could have spent 30 seconds
doing their own research.
