Well it ought to be as simple as that, but if everything worked on
that basis we wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place...
What I suspect, whether they're all the same or somewhat different, is
that none will work. I don't really know what's in a USB or PS/2 port
so I can't really determine why it's not working.
The premise, though, is that they make these adapters, and presumably
someone uses them. If it looks like a PS/2 port at the end of the
cable, then it should function the same as one. If the switch
functions with a PS/2 port, it should function with the adapter that
looks and presumably works like a PS/2 port. But since it doesn't, I
suspect that the problem is with the adapter (or the concept of the
adapter) and not the switch. So everybody really has this problem,
it's just that they don't all know it. ;)
Ah, good point. Also, where's the KVM switch getting *its* power from?
Does it have its own DC adapter, or is trying to draw power via the
PS/2 (and hence: USB) ports?
It gets its power from the ports. No power adapter.
Could the behaviour of the whole caboodle vary depending upon whether
the Mackie is powered up and able to supply a bit more juice to the
switch?
Could be. Or it could be that the USB port doesn't supply any power at
all. But then how does it power a mouse?
