C-617, which
Both are excellent mikes. The M-296 is more beamy than the
you might like in a Jecklin disc but probably won't like forA-B stereo.
mikes
The C-617 uses a 1/2" measurement microphone capsule. Similar
have been sold by B&K and ACO, but the C-617 is less expensivethan most
of those, and sounds great.
Thanks Scott;: Which do you think would be best for inside
recording of grand piano? I'm still assuming the less beamy the
better for that application.
Damned if I know. The problem with that application is that what you
want may not be a natural sound. To be honest, the Sennheiser 441 is
still really the first thing I grab for spot mikes on pianos.
Also, do you recommend anyone who could let me try both to see
which ones I like?
Fletcher at Mercenary Audio definitely carries the C-617. I think he is
a Gefell dealer too. That's the first place I'd try, and they are very
good about allowing demos.

OH! BTW, add the new Neumann 8020. Just here and sounds very nice so far.
