And though not cheap, they're not that expensive -- you'd
spend rather more for a pair of Shures or Etymotics + a
HeadRoom amp.

LOL!
HeadRoom amps can easily cost more than the STAX. I can
conceive of someone who buys into HeadRoom's schtick
buying both the STAX and the HeadRoom amp.

Why? A HeadRoom amplifier can't drive the STAX earphones.
