Do you think that eq-ing recordings made with Shure KSM32 rather than
using something like abudgetAudio Technica AT2020 may be
preferrable.
Everymicis different, and if you have enough mics, you can find the
best match for the voice you'rerecording. But on the other hand, I've
rarely found amicthat I couldn't work with.
Set yourself abudget(a real number), save $30 or so for a decent pop
screen, and buy amicfor the amount of money you're willing to
commit. Then use it. If you have to adjust an EQ knob, that's OK. It's
why we have them.
Thanks Mike. This is exactly what I was interested to find out:
whether it
would be worthwhile to try something like AT2020, or if one could get
comparable
results using KSM32, which I understand is relatively neutralmic, and
which I
already have, and then eq it. BTW, I already have a pop filter.
Looking at these two graphs, what would be a general recommendation
when eq-ing Shure KSM32 recordings to make them sound more like AKG-
C414, considering that the source would be a male vocal. At least
according to the graphs below, AKG C414 appears to have a presence
bump (true, this is one of the newer models, and they may very well be
very different from the older ones, but I couldn't find the graph for
the older one):
