Don,
Of course you can turn it up and hear stuff, but that is totally
missing the point. It is like you are showing that undithered 8 bit is
bad; errr.... yes, fine. We knew that.
This is exactly my point. I'm not arguing that dither is never useful. But it's never useful in practice for audio reduced from 24 bits to 16 bits on normal program material recorded at normal levels.
