The onboard sound card in your computer will always be the weak link no
matter what you do externally. Even if you are switching to external mic
pres you will be getting loads of noise from your sound card inputs and A/D
converter. Get yourself a decent audio interface with 1 or 2 mic pres built
in and you will experience a world of difference. Check out M-Audio's
products. They have a full range of PCI/Firewire/USB interfaces that have
anywhere from 2-8 mic preamps and although the pre's aren't the best they
should be good enough for you to notice in your recordings. They make some
decent entry level interfaces and can be had used for what you are looking
to spend (or slightly more).

Larsen,

This is a different topic, - non-USB, but I catch your drift - I
didn't want someone to say 'hey, you are getting off track, start
another thread'.
as for the rest of your response "I'm a long way from being convinced
that you will be well off making it more complicated." doesn't make a
whole lot of sense to me, so I can't even guess...
The sound card is going to be the built in audio from the motherboard,
not the greatest, I know, that is why I am hoping the mixer will help
me get a clean signal from the mic to the computer.

I know that the MXB1002 has been discontinued, and the UBB1002 is the

Can anyone tell a newbie, what is being lost here in the difference?
Is the MXB1002 a better buy at twice the price?

Please do not toppost if you want a follow up, this is usenet and not
corporate email.

What is the margen between 0 dB FS and the recorded maximum level?

Which soundcard do you plan to use and what is the recording context?

I'm a long way from being convinced that you will be well off making it
more
complicated.

Kind regards
