Of course they are, and they are right. Buying a CD buys the right to
listen to that CD. The owner and his guests or relatives are entitled
to enjoy it together. But as soon as a copy has been made, two people
can enjoy it separately and for that two licenses must be paid.
The old concession about backup or listening in a car was exactly that
- a concession. It was the exception that proved the rule.
