I have a weird behavior with the Mackie Onyx 1200F on-screen console.
Every now and then, something will kick it and when opening the
program (this is the mixer control panel and all the control settings
for the 1200F Firewire audio interface) the window comes up almost
entirely off screen, with just the right-hand edge showing. But there
isn't enough of the window to grab to move it back on screen, so it's
useless.
A screen shot of the Windows desktop with the right-hand edge of the
1200F console showing in the top left corner is here:

Back when Windows was a DOS program, there used to be something in the
"Properties" box that defined the Windows position, but I don't see
that in WinXP. Where is this information stored these days? It used to
work right, but something screwed it up.
The only way I've been able to find to fix it is to use Windows
Restore to go back to a point prior to installing the Mackie driver
set (that's where the console program gets installed) and re-
installing. Then it works right until the next time it gets booted off
to the sideline. Simply un-installing and re-installing doesn't work,
so I figure there's something in the registry that gets set during
installation and gets changed by something, but it doesn't get removed
when un-installing. I've searched the registry for Mackie, Onyx1200F,
and Echo (who wrote the driver and probably the console program) and
nothing looks suspicious.
It doesn't have a resize button so that obvious suggestion isn't
helpful. In the Properties box, setting it to run either maximized or
minimized doesn't change anything. It's like it's not paying attention
to what Windows is (might be?) telling it. If the EXE file changed,
I'd think that re-installing it would fix it, but it doesn't.
Can anyone suggest what to look for? Mackie has observed this behavior
and doesn't have a solution for it other than to change the screen
resolution, which gave the tech enough of a "handle" to move the
screen. This is on a laptop that's running at its highest resoultion,
and the only choice is to go lower, which doesn't help. Right-
clicking, selecting "move" and trying to drag it with the "move"
cursor doesn't work. It's just glued in place.
Hi Mike, I'm not familiar with the Mackie program specifically, but
many programs do have Registry settings to specify their position on
screen.
If you open up Regedit and look under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\"
there should be an entry for the Mackie software in there. If you
explore the sub-folders of that, there may be key, or sub-folder which
contains a key, relelvant to the position. For example, Internet
Explorer's is "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
\Main" under which there is a key called "Window_Placement", which can
be safely deleted to reset the position. FilZip has a set of position
instructions under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FilZip\Config
\Position". Hopefully the Mackie program will have something of that
nature which can be adjusted.
Hope that helps,
Tim
