Are the Sony MDR-V6 anything like the Sony 7506?

Many of us suspect that V6s are 7506s that didn't
make "the grade" (whatever that is). Physically, they
are indistinguishable except for the gold plating on
the plug, and the label on the side. I have several of
each model and can't tell the difference between them.
