Julien BH:
Intel chipset doesn't sound anything to you? Sorry but I don't like
AMD. Too hot for music prod. imho, great for basic tasks.
Intel chipset is the only serious choice for Intel CPUs. Since AMD doesn´t
produce their own chipsets anymore (well, might change again, since they
bought ATI), nForce chipsets are the best choice for AMD CPUs. I have had a
AMD/AMD mainboard/cpu combo for the last 5 years and had no problems with
DAW software, that had been caused by cpu or chipset. My new system is
AMD/nForce550 - still no problems after 7 months.
A friend of mine, who earns his money building and administrating computers
for business clients, also said some AMD CPUs are not getting as hot as
comparable Intel CPUs.
He and many other people, I know, use AMD/nForce based computers for audio
stuff.
In my experience, it´s just important to combine a good CPU with a good
chipset on a well manufactured mainboard. Whether you decide for Intel
CPU+Chipset, or AMD+nForce is up to you.
The difference between Intel and AMD has become a lot smaller during the
last years.
