You can have a nice civilized discussion down the pub, Don, without
much chance of bumping into someone working in the field of
atmospheric physics. Frankly it is outside the area of expertise of
you and most other people but it does not prevent them second guessing
the IPCC or the science behind it.

The usual IPCC argument. " just believe us ".

No, the more I hear this, the less I believe the IPCC. I think some ppl there
are quite intentionally telling lies in fact.

Hmmm.... have you had *any* interest in the ice ages of planet Earth?

Yes.

There's a chance that man has done this to himself a dozen times before.

That would be tricky since ther aren't that many ice ages in the geological record !

Whoa! Maybe it's just in the USA, but there's plenty of evidence laying
around in the mountains here.

Uh ? What evidence of a dozen ice ages ?

So, you reckon there
was a davanced civilisation say 100,000 yrs ago ?

Are you certain that there wasn't ? Who built that pyramid?
Stone Henge? Easter Island? Nazca plains?

All such things were built in the current geologic period ! Are you seriously that badly educated ?

The known ice age record goes back ~ 400,000 years and there's an ice age about every 100,000 years.

Why are most such remaining things near the equator?

Because it's warmer there ? Man didn't start living in the colder climates.

Denial would inevitably be the cause for the repetition.

I fail to see why it would matter.

Perfect case of denial. ;-)

The way I interpret things, it could happen in our lifetime or very
shortly thereafter.

Did you know (I wish I'd kept the details) that there's a new theory coming along that c. 2040 there's going
to be a new cold period' btw ? However these things may happen very often but they don't become real ice
ages. See the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age.

Either you know what's going on scientifically or you don't. The IPCC
guesses don't impress me. Look at their work in depth and there's
plenty of very bad science there, the worst of which is deliberate
data manipulation.

I hate to be so corny, but have you seen "Inconvenient Truth" ?

From what I've heard of it I'd probably break out laughing. It's a collection of half-truths,
over-simplifications and lies as far as I can see.
