While I've got your attention, is 120 dB the wall for dynamic range of

ADC ? Are there any that do better?
-120 dBu is 775nV, for audio bandwidth and room temperature
equivalent to about 100 ohms. -120 dBFS is somewhat lower.
But, by raising the reference voltage to a kilovolt or so, we can get as
much dynamic range as we want. Remember, the dynamic range is the
difference
between two levels and to increase it you can move either one.
The theoretical "wall" of course depends on the sample size, and it is
about 6dB/bit. However, when you get into wide words (above around 12
bits), you start having to worry about the noise floor of the analogue
section and the operating level starting to become limitations.
More can be done, trivially by paralleling ADC's, or also
by higher power consumption and dissipation. There is no wall,
per se, except by commercial convention and cost practicalities.
asking for clarification about. The Apogeel AD16-X and the Benchmark both
spec at about 120 dB A-weighted. Are there any converters that add a couple
of dB onto that?
