I rented a pair of CMC6 (with MK4 cardioid capsules) for a big
concert this weekend. As I was taking them down at the end of
the dress rehearsal, I was horrified to see the entire guts of the
amplifier come out with the XLR connector on one of the mics.
It appears to be held together with three small screws. The
heads of the screws appear to be in their proper location in the
connector shell.
The microphone still worked fine, but I am wondering why it
came apart? Do they use the kind of screws that "back out"
to engage the tube? Are the holes in the tube "stripped out"
or oversize and no longer engaging the screw heads? I don't
want to attempt to fix it since it belongs to someone else.
They shouldn't back out. If it were my mike, I'd screw them back in
and put a dab of blue locktite on them and not worry about it.
The PC board was pre-SMD and a work of art even though
jam-packed with conventional axial resistors (etc.) on-end.
I got a few pictures just for fun.
Get the schematic too, and look at it. It's a beautiful thing... I
don't know who came up with their differential drive circuit but it
is really a work of art.
